Océane Sorel, PhD in Virology and content creator
Her background
After 6 long years of study, she became a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), but instead of going into veterinary practice, she decided to do biomedical research (which had always attracted her) and continue her studies.
Océane won a highly selective doctoral scholarship that will fund her 4-year thesis in an Immunology/Vaccinology laboratory at the University of Liège.
At the age of 18, she successfully passed the entrance exam for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Liège. She left Brittany, where she had grown up, for Belgium to begin her studies.
She defended her thesis in the field of Virology and Immunology and became a Doctor (PhD) once again. Five days later, on the plane with her husband, their child, their dog and their whole life in 6 suitcases: off to Los Angeles.
She began a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles to study human viruses that cause cancer.
She begins a second postdoctoral stay at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) in a laboratory studying the immune response to viruses such as Ebola and varicella-zoster virus.
She left academic research to work for a biotech company in California, still in the field of infectious diseases.
In the midst of a pandemic, after yet another unlikely fake news story, she discovers a new passion for "creating educational content". Océane was soon hooked. She dresses up and creates characters to illustrate complex concepts. She sets herself the mission of explaining in 30 seconds things that took her years to understand.
That's how, after 10 years of study, you end up dressed as a beaver on Instagram!
